In my opinion, nail art will never go out of style. Just like a great statement necklace or shoe, your nail can make a statement as well and I wanted it to say, "I'm spontaneous and fun!" Usually when I paint my nails I always paint one nail a contrast color from the rest, to shake things up a bit. However, this time I wanted to do a design and opted for a chevron print.  Chevron prints are trending big time right now, and as a style blogger I thought it fitting to display the trend on my nails. When I finished painting my nails I was satisfied with my efforts, though my right hand ended looking a little sloppy, but when I woke up the next morning I wanted to add a little more. It was a little daring, maybe a little crazy, but I went for the ever-fun glitter nail polish on my index finger. Two statement nails! Now I was good to go and my nails definitely express both my trendy and wild sides. Not to mention, they were a great accessory to show off my new rings.

Rebecca Minkoff Trunk Show

Around these parts, South Moon Under throws some of the best shopping parties in the DMV. I've been to two events already and have always had a great time. Swag bags, cocktails, light bites, and an entire store discount can be found when attending a South Moon Under event.

This particular party was thrown at one of their newest stores in the Mosaic District, a part of Northern Virginia I've never visited. And being a part of this area I've never visited, I got lost on my way there. Typical Sarita getting lost in her hometown. After 2 hours of getting lost - mind you, the Mosaic District is so new it didn't show up on my Apple Maps - disheveled and sweaty I finally arrived. This event was special to me because it was the first time I was recognized at an event on behalf of The Rabbit's Overalls! I took a lot of pictures, so if you didn't make it over there, or got lost and gave up, here are some pictures of the event.

So many colorful Rebecca Minkoff crossbody bag
The store was color coordinated very well, keeping all shades together. If you were looking for a specific color, you would have no trouble finding it.
Such a cute snake skin print bag! Looks like I have to save some serious money to get me one.

Look who I ran into!! Kimmie from The2fs. I also got to hang out with Emily from Blue Dog Belle! Thank you Emily for being my photographer for the night :)
The Rebecca Minkoff Rep who helped organize the trunk show. Isn't her jacket fabulous?!? You can find a similar one here.

I love her dress, it's from South Moon Under and can be found in stores and online.

Thank you so much to Taylor and Molly from South Moon Under for their hospitality and throwing such a great shopping event. I had such a great time seeing my fellow bloggers and meeting new people. Can't wait for the next one.

Pajama Pants you Don't Wear to Bed

When I first heard of pajama pants as a trend, I was a little skeptical. But as the months wore on, and I saw examples of how they can be worn, silk pants started to grow on me and I thought, "hey, these are dope pants! I must own a pair." Luckily I landed upon a JCrew sale one exceedingly slow day at work, plus a 20 percent discount for card members (yay!), and I was completely sold. I decided to try them out at work (my coworker really wanted to see me in them) and let me tell you....they were beyond comfortable. I loved how light weight and breezy they were, especially since the weather was pretty sticky. All day I felt like I could just curl up in bed and forget about the world, which is probably not the best mindset while I'm at work. Whoops! (buy them here)

Even though my silk pants are already color-blocked, I decided to go a step further with a green strappy sandal (seen here). I liked the way the Kelly Green complimented both the blue and the camel racing stripe, and didn't make me feel confined to only two colors for shoes. Since I was doing a lot of color for the bottom half, I went neutral on the top with an ivory lace tank (seen here) and an olive green military jacket (seen here and here). It's a daring office look, but I always like to push my limits when it comes to style.

Craig Sager - The Fashionisto of the NBA

The designated sport for my household is basketball. While others get excited for Super Bowl Sunday, my family goes nuts for the NBA Playoffs. Now even though my father likes to point out to me that I am not a basketball fan, I disagree with his accusation. I would like to state that I do enjoy a game here and there, and while I used to follow Celtics games a little regularly, nowadays I've found other things to occupy my interest. Well, last night I was catching up on the current Playoffs season with my step-mom, and right after the commercial break - before they delved into the action - the cameras lingered on a sideline reporter wearing a pink, blue, purple, plaid blazer and a bright pink tie to match. This reporter, as many sports fans, would know is Craig Sager. Now, at first I was like, "what stylist told him that it was ok to don that Easter Egg mess of a blazer on national TV?" But, the more I talked it over with my father and step-mom, I came to the conclusion that Craig Sager is a true fashion pioneer.

The fun of fashion is wearing the colors and prints that nobody else would dare to wear, and becoming an inspiration and a leader. Even though I personally don't like his choice of clothes, he is fearless and sticks to his choices, which earns him some serious respect points. Also, Craig Sager manages to pull off these abstract prints and fabrics very well. his tie is always matching and he coordinates the colors effortlessly. And another note, his wild style has made him stand out of the crowd and now he's just not some sports reporter, he's the sports reporter with style! Check out some of his other outfits that he's worn on the court.

Givenchy Spring 2013 - Awesome Video

I know I'm kind of late posting this video up on the blog, considering that the fashion world is no longer talking about spring styles and we are slowly moving into summer. BUT...I really wanted to show you all this video a friend of mine showed me a while back. Most ads for designers make it clear that the clothes are the focal point, but in this video the clothes are a part of the medium. The director, Gordon Von Steiner, interweaved both film and fashion to create this hybrid art form. You can't have one without the other, proving that fashion is a true piece of art and not just some ploy to make consumers spend all of their hard earned money. Fashionistas, and fashionistos, are walking pieces of art and Steiner has shown us that with this film. Also, for an ad, it's pretty deep and makes you really think about the meaning behind the various images he used to create it. What do you all think?

Cara Delevingne is "the rabbit's overalls"

If you've noticed, my last few posts have included super model Cara Delevingne and like the rest of the fashion world I am in love with the Model of the Year. Ms. Delevingne has been seen everywhere this past year; she's the face of Burberry Prorsum, DKNY, Karl Lagerfeld's Chanel Cruise, and much more. Besides her beautiful bold eyebrows, I love how she brings her edgy personality to the runway and her photo shoots. I may not know her, but she seems like she's the kind of girl that's spontaneous, always looks for an adventure, and isn't afraid to try new things. And this all just by looking at her through film, so needless to say I would love a chance to interview her some day about her inspirations and how she brings her fierce attitude to her photos. Cara Delevingne is "the rabbit's overalls," for sure! Below are just a few of my favorite photos from Pinterest:

Finding Your Inner Punk

Image from nytimes.com
My social media has been all a twitter this past week because of the new exhibit at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, Punk: Chaos to Couture, and the Met Gala Ball. As usual there was every relevant, and some non relevant, celebrity there who tried to embody the metamorphosis of punk fashion. There were a few that totally nailed it, like Christina Ricci and Cara Delevingne, and then there were those that took it WAYYY to literally, like Madonna and Beyonce. To me, punk is all about breaking the rules and not giving a damn who cares. It's about, what fashion means to you and no one else; taking advantage of being young and a rebel. So wear white after Labor Day and make your grandmother uncomfortable in your spiked leather jacket.  Punk fashion is a freeing experience and about not being tied down to the modern day conventions that society wants to hold us down to. I believe that there is a little punk in everyone. Some exert all day everyday, while others suppress it for most of the time. Ladies....LET IT OUT! Turn on your iPods and listen to the Sex Pistols if you have to get in the mood, but don't be afraid to let your inner punk out. So, in the spirit of the Punk: Chaos to Couture exhibit opening last week, I created my own punk look for the office (now please remember that my office is very casual so make sure to adjust your style depending on the dress code).
